Reasons NOT to Do Social Marketing

I've got to say marketing via the social networks isn't for everyone. Believe it or not I visit with people daily and steer their marketing efforts a different way, especially if I think they will struggle so much they throw in the towel on their dreams. It takes time and effort just like any other worthwhile profitable endeavor. That's not to say you couldn't hire someone to do it for you if you don't have the time or skill set to do it yourself.

3 Reasons Not to Do Social Marketing

1. You have the communication skills of a brick wall and no time to work on getting better at it. Social Marketing is about connecting with other people through written content, video, audio, images, text messaging, phone, and personal connections. Not that you must be a master at all of these way's to communicate, but you will have to get really good at a few of them to have any success.

2. Your website hasn't been updated since 2003 or you don't even have a website. Social Marketing comes last. If you don't have a good site, good products and a business plan, you should focus on the basics before implementing a social marketing program. This isn't to say it's impossible to market via the social networks, nothing is impossible when it comes to networking, let's just say it's much simpler when you have an up to date website you can refer people to.

3. You don't know how to use social sites. If you don't have a facebook profile or set one up but never use it and think tweeting is only for birds, you probably need to get online and start using social first. Most social sites are fairly simple to set up and start using, but it does take time and effort to use them effectively.
